National Girl Child Day 2024 :
According to the report of the National Crime Records Bureau, there was a 15 per cent increase in crimes against women in 2021. In the year 2023, a 10-year-old girl was raped and her body was cut into 10 pieces in Udaipur district of Rajasthan. In Bhilwara, an incident of throwing an innocent girl in a coal furnace came to light. Women were paraded naked in Udaipur and Pratapgarh districts.

The purpose of National Girl Child Day is to raise awareness of the issues facing girls and women, preserve their rights, and shield them from crimes against them. Every year on January 24, National Girl Child Day is observed to empower the nation’s girls.

Why is Girl’s Day celebrated only on 24th January?
On January 24, we celebrate Girls’ Day for a very unique reason. Indira Gandhi, the nation’s first female prime minister, is remembered on this day. On January 24, 1966, Indira Gandhi took office as prime minister. To raise awareness among women about women’s empowerment and to commemorate the nation’s daughter’s achievement in attaining this highest position, January 24 was deemed significant each year.
The theme of National Girl Child Day 2024
Every year a special theme of Girls’ Day is decided. The theme of Girls’ Day in 2021 was ‘Digital Generation, Our Generation’. The theme of Girls’ Day 2024 has not been announced yet.
