The purpose of National Girl Child Day

The purpose of National Girl Child Day is to raise awareness of the issues facing girls and women, preserve their rights, and shield them from crimes against them. Every year on January 24, National Girl Child Day is observed to empower the nation’s girls.

Let us know when and why the celebration of National Girl Child Day started. What is the theme of Girls’ Day 2024 this year and which woman is behind celebrating this day?

Why is Girl’s Day celebrated only on 24th January?

On January 24, we celebrate Girls’ Day for a very unique reason. Indira Gandhi, the nation’s first female prime minister, is remembered on this day. On January 24, 1966, Indira Gandhi took office as prime minister. To raise awareness among women about women’s empowerment and to commemorate the nation’s daughter’s achievement in attaining this highest position, January 24 was deemed significant each year.

In a culture where girls are dealing with gender inequity, educational barriers, school dropout, girl child health care, child marriage, and gender-based violence, the initiative seeks to recognize the particular difficulties that girls face.
